Salmon Spread
One of our favorite ways to use salmon is in Smoked Salmon Spread. We brine, smoke, and can our own salmon, but canned salmon from the store is fine. Most canned salmon is Pink Salmon, but if you can find canned Red Salmon, buy that instead. We feed Pink Salmon to our dog, but then we are salmon snobs. I freely admit it.
And whatever you do, please don’t buy farmed salmon in any form. I will not go into all the reasons why here, but trust me, wild-caught salmon is all you should eat.
Back to the spread, we simply add cream cheese to our canned salmon because it already has tons of flavor from the smoking and canning process. But you will need to add additional flavors to store-bought salmon, which are in the recipe. Feel free to add chopped green onions or jalapeños or prepared horseradish sauce to make it your own. And please share your favorite additions with me in the comments.
