God’s Character
In our first journal question, we looked at what we truly believe about God. I hope you were able to spend some time wrestling with that question. Today, I want to narrow our focus and concentrate on God’s character.
What do you think God is really like? Do you think He is always right? Is He always with us even if we don’t feel like He is? Does He care what happens to us? Can He be trusted? Is He always good? These are just a few questions that will reveal what we believe about the character of God, His nature.
I was asked to give my testimony at a ladies retreat several years ago. As I was preparing for it, God clearly said to me, “You doubt my goodness.” Wait, what? That statement came out of the blue and had nothing to do with what I was preparing. Yet, I knew without a doubt God had spoken those words to me. As I thought about it I realized He was right. I had not been able to see it but I doubted He was actually good. Too many bad things had happened. I had lost too many people close to me. If God was really good then He would not have allowed all those things to happen. But they did. And now I had a choice; was I going to believe God was who He said He was or was I going to base my beliefs on my circumstances?
I realized I believed in God (He exists) but I didn’t fully believe God (what He said). That was a pivotal moment for me. If I was going to have a close relationship with Him, then I had to start believing what He said. I had to start trusting Him.
And the journey began.
How about you? Do you believe God or just believe in Him? What do you think His true character is like? I hope you’ll answer our second journal question and make some discoveries with Him.
May you be blessed.
Judy
